In a February Rolling Stone profile, Migos' Quavo had some uncharitable things to say about fellow Atlanta rapper iLoveMakonnen. The rap group has a documented history of homophobia. True or false, it's not hard to imagine why the rumor took off in the first place-Migos has given us plenty of reason to believe it might be true, which is unfortunately going to be a point of contention as they continue to gain popularity. The rumor originated on the website for World of Wonder, the company that produces RuPaul's Drag Race, but the article presupposing Migos' distaste for drag queens has since been pulled and some queens have issued a vehement repudiation of the Migos rumor. Last weekend Katy Perry performed on SNL with Migos, the featured rappers on her song "Bon Appétit." She also performed with a gaggle of drag queens, featured in both the former song and her latest single "Swish Swish." The performance was a disaster for a myriad of reasons (Perry's thirst for hip-hop cred came off awkward and produced memes of her minstrel-ish dancing), but the loudest eruption from that weekend were rumors that Migos was uncomfortable performing with drag queens-so uncomfortable that three dancers were allegedly cut from the stage altogether. Leave it to Saturday Night Live, which has only benefitted from the around-the-clock imbroglio that is the Trump administration, to also be at the center of its own conspiracy theories this week.
